Göbekli Tepe is located 18 km northeast of Şanlıurfa in southeastern Turkey. Here are the best ways to reach the site.
By Air
Şanlıurfa GAP Airport (GNY) is the closest airport, just 35 km from the city centre. Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet operate daily flights from Istanbul (1h 45m). From Ankara, flights take approximately 1h 30m.

Best Months
April, May, September, and October offer the ideal balance of comfortable weather (15-25C), manageable crowds, and beautiful light for photography. Early mornings at the site are magical during these months.
Consider Avoiding
July and August bring extreme heat (often exceeding 40C) with very little shade at the archaeological site. If you must visit in summer, go at opening time and bring plenty of water.

Site Opening Hours
Göbekli Tepe is open daily. Summer (Apr-Oct): 08:00-19:00. Winter (Nov-Mar): 08:00-17:00. Last entry 30 minutes before closing.
Photography
Photography is allowed at the site (no flash). Tripods require special permission. The best light is in the early morning or late afternoon.
Health & Safety
Tap water is not recommended for drinking. Carry bottled water. The nearest hospital is in Şanlıurfa city centre (15-20 km from the site).
Language
Turkish is the main language. English is spoken at major hotels and by tour guides. Learning a few Turkish phrases is always appreciated by locals.
